DescriptionThe Foundation is part of the Sobrato Philanthropies, a holistic initiative that encompasses the family foundation along with the family’s individual giving and corporate donations made by the 100% family owned Sobrato Development Companies. All grants made through these Sobrato Philanthropy vehicles originate from the Companies building sales or profits from business activities. The Family Foundation is committed to building a strong and vibrant Silicon Valley community through business and philanthropic leadership. To support these efforts the Family Foundation is a place-based grantmaker that invests exclusively in nonprofits serving those most in need in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Southern Alameda counties. The Foundation’s People & Places portfolio utilizes both cash and real estate to achieve maximum impact. The Family Foundation provides multi-year cash grants for general operating support and in-kind office and meeting space. The Family Foundation also supports special initiatives that align with its mission such as the Early Language pilot program, the Foundation’s forthcoming Nonprofit Networking Initiative, and its new Education Fund. Guiding principles for lending include the development of long-term, trusting relationships in the community; achieving maximum impact by responding to nonprofits’ greatest needs; catalyzing more civic engagement and giving as a result of the Foundation’s leadership; and passing the philanthropic legacy to future generations.
