Description

The Trust created by the wife of the former chairman of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, seeks to fulfill its mission through two division, the Health Care Division and the Poor and Needy Division. Through the Health Care Division, the Trust responds to health and wellness needs and invests in solutions that improve the quality of health for financially needy residents across the state of North Carolina. Access is focused on four issues: access to primary care, community-centered prevention, diabetes, and mental health and substance abuse. In the Health Care Division, grants are made statewide. Through the Poor and Needy Division, the Trust responds to basic life needs and invests in solutions that improve the quality of life for financially needy residents of Forsyth County. Access is focused on issues: community assets, education, health, and safety net. The Trust invests in the following areas: diabetes, mental health and substance abuse, access to primary care, and community-centered prevention with an emphasis on supplying basic needs and increasing self-reliance. Priority is given to programs that support prevention and provide treatment. Additional information on each of the categories can be found on the Web site.
