DescriptionDollar General, in collaboration with the American Library Association, the American Association of School Librarians, and the National Education Association, is sponsoring Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Fund. The Fund supports public school libraries in the communities served by Dollar General in 40 states, including the states most affected by Hurricane Sandy. The Fund provides grants of $10,000 and $20,000 to preK-12 public schools whose library programs have been affected by a natural disaster (tornado, earthquake, hurricane, flood, avalanche, and mudslide), fire, or act of terrorism. Schools that have absorbed a significant number (more than 10 percent of enrollment) of displaced/evacuee students are also eligible to apply. Grants are intended to help replace or supplement books, media, and/or library equipment. Eligible applicants must be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General store, distribution center, or corporate office. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
