Chamber Music America
Category: Music
DescriptionThe Organization’s New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development program supports professional United States jazz ensembles in the creation and, in this grant cycle, two performances of new works, provides funds for activities that extend the life of that work, and supports the bandleader in developing career-related business skills. An ensemble is eligible if it is a professional composer-led or collective jazz ensemble that’s based in the United States or its territories. The leader must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. The group must consist of between two and 10 musicians and include improvisation as an integral part of its composition and performance. The organization must also be a member of Chamber Music America, has no overdue reports or financial obligations to CMA, and has waited 12 months from the completion of a previous New Jazz Works grant. Grants provide up to $16,000 in core funding for creation and performance of the new work; up to $7,500 to continue the life of the work; and up to $3,000 to improve the ensemble leader’s business skills. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
