Description

The outdoor retailing Company focuses its grantmaking on environmental activism. The Company commits either 1 percent of sales or 10 percent of its pre-tax profits, whichever is more, to grassroots environmental groups. The Company targets its grants to innovative groups overlooked or rejected by other corporate donors, funding activists who take radical and strategic steps to protect habitat, wilderness, and biodiversity. Priority is given to organizations that identify and work on the root causes of problems and that approach issues with a commitment to long-term change. Funds are awarded to groups in the United States, Canada, Japan, Chile, Argentina, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Luxembourg, Italy, Ireland, Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and the Czech Republic. Proposals are submitted through the Company’s retail stores at any time of year or online before April 30 and Aug. 31 of each year. Some additional information can be found on the Web site.
