Description

The Foundation, created as a manifestation of commitment to “Tzedakah,” a Jewish concept of helping others and encouraging justice, makes grants in three areas: education, environment, and reproductive health. Formed with proceeds from the sale of the Sealy Mattress Company, the Foundation focuses its education funding on the city of Chicago and in parts of California. Education grants are targeted at middle- and high-school age youth in Chicago and K-12 youth in California. Environment and reproductive health grants are awarded to organizations working in Wyoming and Colorado. Environmental grants address the negative impacts of mineral extraction and energy development on landscapes and the reduction of carbon emissions responsible for the damaging effects of climate change. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals in the reproductive health category. Letters of inquiry are requested; a form and additional information as well as a list of deadlines can be found on the Web site.
