Description

The Company, through its subsidiaries, provides high quality water and wastewater services to approximately 15 million people in more than 30 states, as well as parts of Canada. Headquartered in New Jersey, American Water is the largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company in the United States. The Company’s Community Giving Program focuses its community investments in four key areas: water and the environment; water and healthy living; environmental education; and community sustainability. Water and the environment grants support innovative, community-based projects that improve, restore, or protect watersheds and communities’ surface and groundwater. Water and healthy living grants support efforts that contribute to healthy communities by promoting access to safe water and sanitation, educating customers on the health benefits of water, and encouraging good hygiene practice. Environmental education grants support educational programs that provide information about water conservation, water and wastewater treatment, the water cycle, watershed protection, and the environment. Community sustainability grants support projects that meet a definitive, sustainable community need, preferably aligned with the Company’s core business. Grants are made in the communities the company serves in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
