DescriptionThe Foundation’s mission is to improve the community and enhance the quality of life for its citizens. Founded by Charles L. McCune, the president, chairman of the board, and director of the Union National Bank of Pittsburgh, the Foundation focuses its grantmaking on the following areas: education, human services, humanities, and civic. Education grants seek to promote excellence in institutions of higher education, independent elementary and secondary schools, and ancillary education programs such as general education. Human services grants focus on health, social services, and community improvement. Humanities grants support culture, preservation, and religion and values. Civic grants have a regional focus on new job growth and generating community wealth, support of core community assets, and quality of life. The Foundation focuses its giving on organizations located in Western Pennsylvania, mainly the Pittsburgh area. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
