Description

The Foundation focuses its grantmaking both regionally and internationally. Regionally, grants are awarded to organizations providing direct services to the residents of San Mateo County, California, through programs that benefit children, youth, families, immigrants, the elderly, the ill, the disadvantaged, the needy, the homeless, the mentally and physically disabled, and those suffering from drug, alcohol, and physical abuse. The Foundation also funds schools, community colleges, universities, adult and vocational schools and related organizations serving the needs of students in San Mateo County and United Methodist Church and ecumenical and church-related organizations reaching out to serve the material and social welfare needs of communities in the county. Internationally, grants are awarded to U.S. nonprofits providing assistance, support, and training, in Mexico and Central America. The Mexico and Central America grants focus on the sustainable development of water and food resources; economic initiatives such as cooperative banks, agri-businesses, and micro-enterprise; and programs such as sanitation, nutrition, health education, and family planning.
