DescriptionThe Institute, a division of the United States Department of Agriculture, is offering challenge grants to institutions of higher education. The grants are awarded to projects and programs that address five priority areas, the outcomes of a 2008 committee meeting. The priority areas are: global food security and hunger, climate change, sustainable energy, childhood obesity, and food safety. The aim of the challenge grants is to improve formal, postsecondary-level agricultural sciences education. Project types include conference/planning; regular project proposal for a single institution/organization; joint project proposal with the applicant and one or more partners; and large-scale (state or region) comprehensive initiatives involving the applicant and two or more partners.
