Description

The Foundation funds projects that promise to bring significant economic improvement to the tobacco-dependent, economically distressed, and/or rural communities in North Carolina. Grantmaking is targeted toward three areas: agriculture, job creation and retention, and workforce preparedness. The Foundation has two grant programs: the Open Grants program and the Economic Catalyst Cycle. The Open Grants program funds projects related to agriculture, job creation and retention, and workforce preparedness. Also of interest are projects that focus on other opportunities to support and develop economic strength in tobacco–dependent, economically distressed, and/or rural communities. In light of the economic downturn the Foundation is looking for opportunities to complement and leverage federal and state stimulus programs to increase the impact of its grantmaking on targeted communities. Economic Catalyst Cycle grants focus on job creation and/or retention projects associated with business locations or expansions in North Carolina that are at risk without Foundation participation. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
