Description

The Foundation’s purpose is to encourage the study, teaching, and research into the science and art of self-government so that people may understand the fundamental principles of democracy. It supports programs and activities that result in an increased understanding of the benefits of individual freedom and civic and personal responsibility. It’s also concerned with the threat to liberty posed by a lack of informed, active citizen participation at all levels of government. Funding is targeted at the following areas: education and teacher training; civic engagement and public affairs; and youth leadership and citizenship. Grants are made to select schools, colleges, universities, and other nonprofits in the states of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. The Foundation occasionally makes grants to organizations outside of this region. Grants are accepted from Jan. 1 to Aug. 1 each year. The Foundation does not accept grant applications filed by e-mail or fax. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
