DescriptionThe Foundation, established in 1979 by Sydney Kahanoff, a Calgary oil and gas executive and philanthropist, has as a mandate, to provide funding for creative and innovative charitable organizations and programs in Israel and Canada with a focus in Calgary. Funded initiatives include the advancement of charitable organizations and support for community institutions. The Foundation also supports the Kahanoff Centre, which provides cost-effective, office space for nonprofits; Centre Point, which provides management consulting services to the charitable sector; and the Kahanoff Chair and Program in Israel Studies at the University of Calgary. Funds are also used to support the Philanthropic Foundations Canada, a national membership organization for Canada’s independent grantmaking foundations; the Banff Centre, a globally renowned arts, cultural, and educational institution and conference facility; and public policy initiatives.
