Description

The Foundation, along with Discovery Education, and the National Science Teachers Association, have partnered for the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge. The Challenge gives students the opportunity, tools, and inspiration to become agents of environmental change. Beginning Aug. 19, 2009 and continuing through March 15, 2010, elementary and middle school classes from across the country will be challenged to create sustainable, reproducible environmental improvements in their classroom or school. The Challenge’s purpose is to engage students in identifying and solving local environmental problems, utilize their creativity, foster community involvement, and recommend how others could use this solution in their community. Challenge teams should consist of a teacher/mentor/adult and a group of students. Prizes include grants for the schools, savings bonds for the students, and various educational materials for teachers. There is also a high school Challenge, but the deadline has not been finalized. The deadline for elementary student entries is Jan. 31, 2010. The deadline for middle school student entries is March 15, 2010. Additional information and applications are available on the Web site.
