Laura J. Niles Foundation
Category: General
DescriptionThe Foundation focuses its grantmaking on two areas: alleviating poverty among the “motivated poor” and animal companionship. The Foundation encourages and supports efforts that offer learning and economic growth opportunities for the motivated poor. Of particular interest are education, economic self-sufficiency, and programs that alleviate unhealthy dependencies. Under the animal companionship category, the Foundation earmarks funds for canine health research, animal protection and adoption, search and rescue training, human assistance, and similar fields. Programs should favor innovation and tangible outcomes, with an emphasis on opportunities for significant and lasting social improvement. The Foundation encourages pilot initiatives that test new program models. While the majority of the Foundation’s grantmaking is targeted toward organizations in the northeastern United States, the Foundation does make grants in other parts of the country and abroad. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
