DescriptionThe Foundation, named for the Secretary of State under President Calvin Coolidge, focuses its grantmaking on education; combating prejudice based on race, color, or religious belief; protecting the environment; and the arts. Education grants are awarded for legal education, the social sciences, and technical education with an emphasis on assisting minorities. Environmental grants support work in reproductive health and planning and AIDS prevention. The Foundation’s geographic focus is New York, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and the District of Columbia.
