Description

Created by Elizabeth Noyce in 1989, the private Foundation strives for innovative ways to enrich the state of Maine, empower communities, and enhance the quality of life for all Maine citizens. As its name implies, the Foundation embraces the sense of proportion and fairness and attempts to maintain a balance of diversity of giving throughout Maine and across all populations. Traditionally, the Foundation gives small grants to many organizations rather than large grants to only a few. Areas of giving include arts, culture and humanities, education, environment, health, human services, justice, public/society benefit, and religion. Applicants are asked to complete a two-page application that’s available by request. Trustees meet to consider grant requests quarterly in March, June, September, and December. Applications may be submitted at any time, but must be received by Feb. 15, May 15, Aug. 15, and Nov. 15 to be considered at the next regular board meeting. Additional information is available on the Web site.
