The Academy, the home of the Oscars, is accepting applications for its film festival grants. The grants will be given to festivals occurring during the 2010 calendar year. While grants are awarded for various programs, film festivals are encouraged to submit proposals that make festival events more accessible to the general public, provide greater access to minority and less visible filmmakers, and help strengthen the connection between the filmmaker and the public. Only U.S. based festivals that have held at least five festivals as of December 31 of the year prior to applying are eligible to apply. Screening programs, be they periodic screening series or end-of-term student screening programs are not eligible to apply. Festivals that do not screen films in a theatrical setting are also not eligible for these grants. Grants are not offered to individual festivals in successive years. No grants will be awarded for general support. Festivals with a cash budget of less than $100,000 can apply for a grant of up to 10 percent of their cash budget or $2,500, whichever is larger. Festivals with cash budgets from $100,000 to $200,000 can apply for a grant of up to $10,000. Festivals with cash budgets from $200,000 to $600,000 can apply for a grant of up to $20,000. Those with budgets above $600,000 can apply for a grant of up to $30,000. Additional information is available on the Web site.
