Wallace Genetic Foundation
Category: Environment
DescriptionCreated by Henry Wallace, the founder of the first commercial hybrid seed company, the Foundation was split into three separate Foundations in 1996: the Wallace Genetic Foundation, the Wallace Global Fund, and the Wallace Research Foundation. The Wallace Genetic Foundation focuses its grantmaking on the long-term conservation of the soil and of the environment. Topics of interest include sustainable agriculture, protection of farmland near cities, plant genetic research, biodiversity protection, and environmental education and media. The Foundation is particularly interested in far-sighted groups and individuals with innovative ideas, and seeks to fund organizations whose work promises to provide long-term national or global benefit. Applicants may initially submit either a letter of inquiry or a full proposal. Proposals received after November 1 may not be reviewed until January of the following year. A required Cover Page form and additional information can be found on the Web site.
