Description

This family Foundation was founded in 1986 by horror author, Stephen King and his wife, Tabitha. The Foundation promotes strengthening and supporting communities and draws upon the values and spirituality of the founders. It has a special interest in organizations and people who have less recourse to usual channels of resources. The Foundation focuses on community-based initiatives, especially in the state of Maine. Most grants are for special projects including, but not limited to, innovation grants, special programs, and programmatic expansion. Of particular interest are those that address the underlying causes of social and environmental problems, as well as those that address the consequences. The Foundation has a strong interest in literacy, community services, and the arts. As community builders, the Foundation’s staff is particularly interested in organizations or projects that will affect or serve the most members of a community. Additional information is available on the Web site. The Foundation has two deadlines each year, one on June 30 and the other on December 31.
