Lexus Eco Challenge

Description

The 2009 Lexus Eco Challenge, administered by Scholastic, is a nationwide educational program and contest that invites teams of five to 10 students and one teacher-advisor to define an environmental issue, and develop and implement a plan to address the issue. The Challenge is composed of three categories, each with its own application period. The deadline is for Challenge 3: The Air/Climate challenge. This Challenge addresses global warming and climate change, ozone depletion, and/or fossil fuels and renewable energy. The Challenge is open to students in grades 6-8 and 9-12 who are registered and enrolled in a public school or accredited private school and who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Sixteen prize-winning teams consisting of two middle school teams in each of four Lexus market regions – Eastern, Southern, Central, and Western and two high school teams in each of the four Lexus market regions will receive a $10,000 prize. The 16 teams will also be invited to compete in the Final Challenge. Additional information including application instructions is available on the Web site.
