The Highmark Foundation
Category: Regional
DescriptionAs the philanthropic arm of Highmark, Inc., an independent licensee of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, the Foundation’s principal purpose is to support programs aimed at improving community health in the Company’s 49-county service area of Pennsylvania. Grantmaking targets four key areas of health care: chronic disease, communicable disease, family health, and service delivery systems. The Foundation funds demonstrations, pilot projects, model programs, expansion plans, and well-established initiatives. Of particular interest are evidence-based programs that impact multiple counties, achieve replicable long-term models, and attract collaborative funding by community partners. The Foundation’s board of directors meets quarterly.
