Description

The Foundation targets its grantmaking toward sports programs in Southern California’s eight counties (Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura). While the Foundation serves all of Southern California, it gives special emphasis to Los Angeles, the city that hosted the 1984 Olympic Games. The Foundation will consider funding requests from any Southern California organization devoted to amateur sports. Funds, which came from the surplus from the Olympic Games, are aimed primarily toward youth who are not at elite levels of sports accomplishment. While the Foundation seeks to serve the entire community, it gives special attention to groups and communities underserved by traditional sports programs, including girls, ethnic minorities, the physically challenged, and the developmentally disabled. Applications are accepted at any time on a first-come, first-served basis. For time-sensitive programs beginning between January and May 2009, the deadline is Oct. 10, 2008. Additional information is available on the Web site.
