The U.S. Blind Tennis Association (USBTA) is seeking several passionate and visionary Board Members to support our dynamic nonprofit organization into its next phase of growth. As a critical part of the USBTA leadership team, all board members will work closely with other Board of Director members, and stakeholders to further our mission of empowering individuals who are blind or low-vision through the sport of tennis.
About Us: USBTA is dedicated to providing opportunities for blind and low-vision athletes to participate in tennis, promote wellness, and foster a sense of community and inclusion. We offer resources, advocacy, and programs that support athletes of all levels, from beginners to competitive players, and aim to expand the reach and impact of blind tennis nationwide.
Position Overviews:
Director of Fundraising
The director of fundraising recruits and oversees a committee responsible for the development and implementation of the Fundraising Plan and identifies external sources of support, e.g. sponsors, grants, and employer match programs.
Key responsibilities:
- Create a fundraising plan to meet the financial goals of the organization.
- Develop and oversee corporate sponsor campaign drives.
- Work with third parties who offer to fundraise on behalf of USBTA through events, donation drives, etc.
- Monitor fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, donors are acknowledged appropriately, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective.
- Collaborate with the Communications Director to create a communication plan to ensure consistent messaging on social media, websites, email blasts, and/or direct mail with respect to fundraising.
- Liaise with Director of Marketing to design and execute digital fundraising campaigns.
- Track donations, and maintain a database of donors and potential donors.
- Liaise with the treasurer and budget committee for planning and reporting.
Director of Grants
The Director of Grants is responsible for reviewing available grant opportunities for board review, writing grant proposals, overseeing the grant component of the annual budget.
Key responsibilities:
- Securing grant opportunities,
- Writing grant applications,
- Completing pre-award and post-award accounting,
- Tracking grant outcomes and spending,
- Aligning grant opportunities and USBTA strategic plans,
- Reporting regularly to the board.
Director of Education and Curriculum
The Director of Education and Curriculum is responsible for collaborating with the USBTA Executive Committee to establish best-practice adaptive and accessible materials to enhance participation in the sport for athletes, coaches, organizers and volunteers.
Key responsibilities:
- Create curricula including coaching manuals for a variety of athletes, a school curriculum focused on all current state schools for the Blind, introduction kit for associations for the blind and tennis clubs.
- Public speaking opportunities to promote the curricula at NFB and ACB National conventions, State Chapters, schools, PE conferences.
- Maintain an online repository and database of curricula-related work
Director of Corporate Relations
The director of corporate relations will create and oversee the implementation of strategies with corporate partners, seek out appropriate mission-related corporations to form partnerships and possible funding sources and sponsorships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish corporate relations objectives and budgets in collaboration with the full board of directors, coordinate with experts, and liaise with key clients and external parties.
- Act as a spokesperson and advocate for blind tennis, raising awareness and engaging with potential financial partners
Qualifications for all board positions:
- A strong commitment to the mission of the USBTA and to improving the lives of individuals who are blind or low-vision.
- Proven leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or organizational setting (Board or executive leadership experience a plus).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Understanding of nonprofit governance, financial oversight, and strategic planning strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with adaptive sports and/or blindness-related organizations is a plus, but not required.
Time Commitment: This is a volunteer position. The time commitment will vary depending on the organization's needs, but generally includes monthly board meetings, strategic planning sessions, fundraising events, and occasional travel for key events.
