The U.S. Blind Tennis Association (USBTA) is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Board Vice President to support our nonprofit’s mission of empowering individuals who are blind or low-vision through the sport of tennis. As a key member of the USBTA leadership team, the Vice President will work closely with the Board President, Board of Directors, executive staff, and stakeholders to ensure strong governance, organizational sustainability, and strategic growth.
About Us: USBTA is dedicated to providing opportunities for blind and low-vision athletes to participate in tennis, promote wellness, and foster a sense of community and inclusion. We offer resources, advocacy, and programs that support athletes of all levels, from beginners to competitive players, and aim to expand the reach and impact of blind tennis nationwide.
Position Overview: As Board Vice President, you will serve as a key leader in supporting the President and Board of Directors in guiding the organization’s mission and operations. The Vice President plays a crucial role in board engagement, fundraising, strategic planning, and external relations while ensuring smooth governance. Additionally, the VP may step in for the President when necessary, ensuring continuity of leadership. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with USBTA’s Board of Directors in guiding the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Facilitate board governance by assisting in board member engagement, committee oversight, and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate on fundraising and donor relations to ensure financial sustainability and resource development.
- Act as a spokesperson and advocate for blind tennis, raising awareness and engaging with potential partners, donors, and supporters.
- Assist in financial oversight and strategic decision-making to support organizational growth and impact.
- Ensure that USBTA programs, policies, and initiatives align with the mission and core values.
- Step in for the President when necessary, including leading board meetings and representing USBTA in key engagements.
Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to the mission of the USBTA and to improving the lives of individuals who are blind or low-vision.
- Proven leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or organizational setting (Board or executive leadership experience a plus).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Fundraising experience and a demonstrated ability to build and nurture relationships with donors, sponsors, and community leaders.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, financial oversight, and strategic planning.
- Familiarity with adaptive sports and/or blindness-related organizations is a plus, but not required.
- Preferences will be given to applicants with blindness or low vision.
Time Commitment: This is a volunteer position. The time commitment will vary depending on the organization's needs, but generally includes monthly board meetings, strategic planning sessions, fundraising events, and occasional travel for key events.
