Position: Idaho Science and Engineering Fairs (IDSEF) Coordinator
Reports To: Statewide Program Coordinator (Science Fair Director)
Start Date: September 16, 2024
Search will remain open until position filled by qualified candidate
Location: Remote position, must reside in Idaho
Pay Range: $30-$35/hr
EcosySTEM Overview
The Idaho STEM Ecosystem (EcosySTEM) engages partners to foster transformative STEM learning experiences and expand career pathways in every Idaho community. The Idaho STEM Ecosystem includes a group of engaged partners from PreK-12 and higher education, out-of-school education, industry, nonprofits, state and local government agencies, and the legislature. The EcosySTEM currently has three hubs which are delineated by Idaho’s education regions (https://boardofed.idaho.gov/resources/map-of-education-regions-in-idaho/):
- North and North Central Idaho: STEM INNC (Regions 1 & 2)
- South West Idaho STEM Hub: SWISH (Region 3)
- Idaho South East and East: ISEE STEM (Regions 4, 5, & 6)
IDSEF Coordinator Job Description
In 2025, the EcosySTEM will host the IDSEF Fairs for students in grades 9-12 at three locations across Idaho. The EcosySTEM seeks an IDSEF Coordinator to support the Science Fair Director in implementing the IDSEF program.
The Coordinator will:
- Maintain a current understanding on all International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), Society for Science, and Idaho STEM Action Center rules, regulations, and logistics applicable to the regional science fairs.
- Assist the Science Fair Director with the overall planning and logistics of IDSEF program
- Prepare and coordinate communication with participating schools, students, judges, and volunteers
- Coordinate with venues and vendors to ensure all logistical needs are met for each Regional Fair
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of materials and resources to schools, students, judges, and volunteers
- Keep updated records for registration and relevant Fair metrics
- Provide on-site support during each Fair, ensuring events run smoothly and efficiently
- Work with Science Fair Director to provide STEM AC with all necessary materials to send winners to the International Science and Engineering Fair
The IDSEF coordinator will be a contractor of Idaho Business for Education (IBE), who hosts the EcosySTEM. IBE is a nonprofit (501c3) and is a group of more than 250 business leaders across the state. It seeks to create the highly educated and skilled workforce Idaho employers need for businesses to thrive in the 21st century. Required Qualifications
- Basic understanding of research protocols in either an academic or professional setting
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply detailed technical information from rules, policy, and regulatory documents.
- Experience collaborating with schools and teachers
- Event management and coordination experience
- Strong project coordination skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player in a fast-paced work environment, prioritize workload, and meet program goals
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, including strong verbal and written skills
- Ability to travel across Idaho to attend Fairs as needed
- Ability to effectively use office productivity software, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Documents, Email/Calendar management tools and the Internet
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of, or experience with, Science and Engineering Fairs (specifically those affiliated with the International Science and Engineering Fair)
- Knowledge of social media such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and marketing tools such as newsletter platforms
- Knowledge and understanding of use of Canvas
- Experience with planning and carrying out original research in an academic or professional setting
