Reports to:                 Executive Director

The Deputy Director will have both internal and external responsibilities, ranging from marketing and project management to administration and human resources. The Deputy Director will work closely with the Executive Director day-to-day to plan future growth and strategic responses to education issues and parent needs.

 Duties to include the following:

 Resource Development:

  • Researches grants and funding opportunities; writes letters of interest, proposals and grant applications
  • Writes and/or provides input to grant reports
  • Solicits corporate donations
  • Works with staff to plan and execute annual donor appeal and/or other fundraising campaigns and events
  • Solicits sponsors for activities and events
  • Maintains familiarity with funders and other partners through contact with relevant organizations


  • Markets PPS Parent Engagement Program (PEP) curriculum
  • Coordinates with communications team to support PEP public relations activities
  • Ensures marketing materials are developed, updated, and printed as necessary; oversees design of new materials as needed
  • Oversees/supports PEP programs conducted by PPS chapters

 Human Resource/Organizational Needs:

  • Conduct regular review of employee benefits. Research additional employee benefit options and provide recommendations to Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Assists Executive Director with creation of new position descriptions as needed.
  • Participates in annual and strategic planning
  • Assists with training needs

 Board of Directors Support:

  • Provides technical assistance and support to the Board of Directors and board committees
  • Assists Executive Director in preparing meeting agendas and minutes
  • Communicates information to Executive Director between meetings to keep board apprised of important events, grant awards, etc.


  • Adheres to the Personnel Policies and Procedures of PPS
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Executive Director

Qualifications for the Deputy Director position include the following:

  • 2-3 years of experience as a manager
  • Grant-writing/fundraising experience
  • Marketing/public relations experience
  • Strong understanding of the public education system
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good team player
  • Self-directed leader with the ability to build trusting relationships across multiple constituencies
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS365 and Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus
