The Merraine Group has been retained by Arc/Morris in seeking a strategic, passionate, and experienced leader to serve as Executive Director

The Arc/Morris is dedicated to the care, support and advancement of people with intellectual and related developmental disabilities and their families with an annual budget of approximately $17,000,000. Funding for Residential and Day Program services is provided by Federal Medicaid and is administered through the Community Care and Support Programs. They maintain 2 adult day programs and 19 group homes, as well as 2 supervised apartment programs and several other supportive living sites. In addition to residential and adult day programs, the Arc provides intake, recreational, after-care and respite home services. 

Major funding for Residential and Day Program services is provided by Federal Medicaid and is administered through the Community Care and Support Programs. Additional funding is provided by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is administered through a family of closely held non-profit corporations. Additionally, The Arc/Morris Foundation, provides financial support and serves as the development arm of the broader organization. While primarily a service organization, The Arc/Morris takes an active role in advocating for the people they serve on the local, county, state and national levels. The executive staff and the Board of Directors meet and communicate regularly with legislators and government officials to make them aware of important issues that affect the funding, rules and regulations that have a direct impact on their ability to serve consumers.

Essential Job Functions

Fulfillment of the Strategic Initiatives developed by the Board of Directors, along with the achievement of the goals developed by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. Organizational operation within the boundaries established in Board policies. The Executive Director will display:

Leadership: Uses effective methods to guide and motivate individuals or groups toward goal achievement.

Communication Skills: Communicates well verbally, electronically, and in writing to members of the Board of Directors, consumers, family members, all levels of staff, professionals, and people and groups in the community and legislature, acting at all times as the principal public relations officer.

Judgment: Exercises sound judgment in administrative, policy, board and staff issues.

Creativity/Initiative: Demonstrates initiative and creativity in achieving goals and establishing courses of action.

Planning & Organization: Establishes a course of action to accomplish or exceed specific goals through appropriate allocation of resources.

Integrity & Trust: Acts and speaks ethically, accepts responsibility for own actions, gives credit to others for their accomplishments and observes organizational values.

Financial/Fiscal Skills: Has a strong financial background which includes a working knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping systems, tax and regulatory compliance, the grant process, and the preparation and review of financial statements.

Teamwork: Works effectively with individuals or groups to accomplish organizational goals.

Professional Knowledge/Continuing Education: Knowledge of Intellectual and related Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). Keeps abreast of new programs and service ideas and the economical and political environments and their impact on the organization.

Ideal Candidate:

  • High energy, enthusiasm, passion, and a strong work ethic.
  • A driven leader who wants to see a difference and has experience leading teams to excellence
  • A true advocate for the I/DD population as well as for the Direct Service Providers
  • A Master’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Special Education, Public Health Administration or a closely related field. 
  • Thrives on challenges and maintains composure while exercising sound judgement. 
  • Passionate about our mission and the ability to promote and communicate the philosophy, mission, and values of The Arc Morris to external and internal stakeholders.
  • An in-depth knowledge of Federal and State Medicaid funding, familiarity with the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disability programs and processes, and an understanding of the Fee for Service billing model
  • Ability to travel regularly to provide on-site leadership for programs and involvement with state and national stakeholders
  • High level of Integrity is a must
  • Strong strategic planning and critical thinking skills
