Collective Impact: What Does it Mean for Me?

You’ve heard about it, you’ve read the articles, you want to know more. Where do you start? What are some first steps? There has been a lot of buzz around the country related to solving large social issues through a Collective Impact approach. These multi-organizational efforts are large and complex.

This webinar will begin with a quick overview of how Collective Impact is different from other types of partnering and collaboration, and then move towards looking at what an organization can do to assess their own readiness for such an undertaking, and identify a few steps toward assessing potential partners, first steps, and building capacity for a larger initiative. Collective Leadership is critical to Collective Impact. This concept will be introduced in this webinar and covered in more depth in Part 2 of this series.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the difference between Collective Impact and Collaboration, and the developmental nature of these kinds of initiatives which require people and organizations to work together in new ways.
  • Be familiar with resources to help assess readiness and build capacity toward Collective Impact
  • Learn about the role Collective Leadership plays in Collective Impact

Cassandra O'Neill
CEO - Wholonomy Consulting

Cassandra O’Neill has over 25 years of experience building leadership capacity in the social sector. She has worked with leaders in over 200 organizations including schools, government agencies, foundations, and a variety of nonprofit organizations. She applies strength based approaches to facilitation, strategic planning, coaching, research, and evaluation.

Prior to becoming a consultant in 2000, she worked at Douglass College, state agencies in California and New Jersey, the Association for State and Territorial Health Officers, the National Governors’ Association (NGA), and a social service agency. She is passionate about building capacity for organizational effectiveness, system change, collaboration, collective impact, and collective leadership. She has written articles for two Charity Channel newsletters and contributed chapters to multiple books on governance and community engagement. She has also authored multiple publications related to building capacity and readiness for collective impact.
